About Us
The
Association of Police Training Institutions in Asia (APTA) is a multi-lateral
cooperation platform for police training institutions (PTIs) in Asia-Pacific
region. It was inaugurated in February 2017 by 18 Member Institutions from 14
countries and 4 Dialogue Partners in 3 countries. The Association aims at
strengthening and facilitating cooperation among the participating institutions
in more inclusive and cost-effective way.

In June 2016, the delegation from KNPU visited the Secretariat of the ASEANAPOL and discussed the needs of a multilateral cooperation channel.
In July and August 2016, KNPU hosted the
Police Academy Students Festival in Asia to check potentials and possibility to
create inclusive partnership among participating PITs.
In November 2016, a proposal for APTA was
presented at the 7th ASEANAPOL Police Training Cooperation meeting.
In December 2016, 21 institutions from 14
countries responded to the proposal and expressed their intention to join the
APTA as a founding member or an observer.
The inauguration meeting of the APTA was
held on 22 February 2017 in Asan, Korea. The Korean National Police University hosted
the event and delegates from 21 institutions in 14 countries participated. The
meeting adopted the Protocol, elected President and Vice-presidents, and
decided the next annual meeting venue.
The APTA Liaison Working Group was formed
and had its first meeting on 15 May 2017 in the Republic of the Philippines.
The Philippine Public Safety College hosted and jointly organized the event
with the APTA Secretariat. 21 representatives from 13 Member Institutions
discussed about addenda to the APTA Protocol and made recommendations to the
way-forward.
Mission and Vision
Aims of the APTA are as follows:
1.
To promote more
effective and practical cooperation in police training;
2.
To facilitate the
exchange of personnel, knowledge, and resources among PTIs
3.
To standardize and
improve the quality of police training and education within the region and
beyond;
4.
To encourage networking
among members of PTIs with a view to enhancing their mutual understanding and
building friendship as future generations of police officers; and
5.
To contribute to the
collaborative endeavor of PTIs to cope with challenges of transnational crimes
within the region and beyond.
The vision of the APTA is “Shared Growth
through Cooperation.”
Working Procedure
According to the Article 6 of the APTA Protocol,
it carries out its activities by means of the followings:
ü Annual
meetings, Liaison Working Group meetings, and ad hoc meetings;
ü Personnel
exchange programs and networking events;
ü Symposiums
and conferences; and
ü Curriculum-sharing,
joint research and information sharing

Police Academy Student Festival in Asia (PASFA)
is held on an annual basis in summer to provide opportunities for future police
leaders in Asia to understand each other and form priceless friendship through
a variety of academic, cultural and sports activities.

International
academic conference
The
APTA hosts two international academic conferences on policing both for
undergraduates and faculties. The former takes place during the PASFA in which
students, trainees, and cadets of the APTA Member Institutions are encouraged
to participate. The latter usually follows the APTA General Assembly Annual
Meeting and provides opportunities for the faculty members to introduce their
academic works. The papers presented at the conferences are collated and
expected to be published through the APTA Journal.
Academic and
training cooperation among the Member Institutions
ü Members
of the Member Institutions may be included to the training courses and
education programs when they are open to APTA Members and Dialogue Partners. (Currently,
courses are available in the areas of cyber-crime investigation, forensic
science, crime prevention, and crisis negotiation)
ü Mutual
exchange programs may be executed in undergraduate, master and doctorate
programs among the Member Institutions.
ü Information
sharing is ensured among research centers within the Member Institutions.
Besides, they are encouraged to conduct joint projects.
